Discover
yoga techniques to help end the nuisance and discomfort of headaches.
Peter Van Houten, M.D., and Gyandev McCord, Ph.D., explain the medical
basics of headaches as well as how to get relief from them. They present
two Ananda Yoga routines intended as preventive measures for headaches.
Each includes yoga postures, breathing exercises, and other exercises
that virtually anyone can do.
The Basic Five
routine takes only 3-5 minutes; it can be all that's needed for
some people. Others will use the Basic Five as a do-it-several-times-a-day
supplement for the Main Routine.
The Main Routine,
too, is fairly short: just 17-20 minutes. It focuses on yoga postures
to improve posture, relieve tension, and foster proper breathing
and relaxation, as well as some optional postures that can take
the therapy even deeper.
Also included
is a brief Intervention Routine for times when a headache is already
in progress.
